I have been reading about project work and I feel
happy about that because I like them a lot. Projects allow us to integrate all
language that has been learnt throughout a period of time.
PBL help students to develop their four macro skills
and at the same time allow them to develop other skills through the use of
tools like the internet and other abilities such as cooperative and
collaborative learning.
Through PBL work students are constantly recycling,
using the knowledge they have acquired and the one they already have. It is a
looping way of learning things. Students get academic and social benefits.
Academic benefits include knowledge of the language and social ones include the
ability to exchange ideas with others and at the same time respect other
people’s ideas and ways of learning.
The social interactions among students are not simple.
The children are educating themselves. They are creating strong, extended,
meaningful, positive interpersonal relationships between teachers and students
that foster increased student motivation and, in turn, stimulate improved learning
outcomes for students.
In groups students learn more as they can help each
other and can solve problems. The teacher is no longer the center of the class
or of the activities. It is a student centered development when each person
learns from the other. And this is how it is in real life as well.
These projects allow us, teachers, to provide with
another way of evaluating students, a much more relaxed way of testing our
students. And at the same all the skills are integrated and evaluated at the
same time.
Assessment takes an active role in the teaching and
learning process but it is far away from the way traditional assessment was
carried out as there are no formal tests.
Connected with it, rubrics also find another way of
doing things. Students can measure their performances, their drawbacks and
their abilities. Moreover, parents through the net can have a direct access to
their children’s performance and so they are more aware of how their children
are learning.
But the most wonderful experience was about reading
Web-quests. On we-quest students learn by doing, that is to say, they do things
like learning in a different way and so our lessons improve in quality and
motivation. They can be long term projects or simple ones. Moreover, they
involve group work and so there is division of work among students in the same
way as it is in society. And children spend more time on activities rather than
on looking for information.

Hi Elena Rives!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you will be fine and enjoying good health. You are absolutely right. Project-based learning is the way through which teachers can get students to enhance their educational skill under a sound and collaborative atmosphere. This base learning always has got an attempt to try a new technology tool or technique in our teaching, and brings victorious and successful changes in our schools and classes. I love project-based learning very, very much. Project-based learning can allow schoolboys to address community issues, explore careers, interact with adult mentors, use technology, and present their work to audiences beyond the classroom. Assessment is need for PBL; it is an integral part of the learning cycle, it is mentioned both during and at the end of project-based learning. As an alternative assessment type, the portfolio method is widely used for project-based learning nicely because its components are the reflections of the students for different periods, improvement their learning progress, and prospective goals. Great job dear! And pleasant post on project-based learning; I like this.
Warm regards,

Hi Elena,
ReplyDeleteI think you've covered almost all the key readings we've gone through in Week 5. You got it right when you say that it is not easy for students to have social interaction, but this PBL, students create interpersonal relations with teachers but with their peers too. I personally think that it's a very positive attitude in everyday life. You're absolutely right too when you say that rubrics allow students to measure their performances because everything is set in a clear way before an assessment, and they are given the opportunity to know the different scores and what is expected from them, which can be a real source of motivation on the part of the learners.

Dagnogo
Hello Elena,
ReplyDeleteI can't find words expressing my gratitude to your help all along the course. You helped me decide the solution for my students problem. Your web quest was the best model to be followed. For PBL, I agree with you that the students learn from each other more than from the teacher. It's a psychological truth that the child learn from the group more than family. So PBL makes the student the center of the learning process. Using rubrics and alternative enhance the student situation as the student decides, plans, shares and evaluates. Technology does the same. The student decide what to search for , what to add and what to delete. The teacher here is just an instructor.
Thank my Elena

Hi Elena
ReplyDeleteAs like you i also believe that Web Quest helps learners learning by doing rather than investing time for reading. i like the way you organized your reflection.

ReplyDeleteHi Elena,
Thank you so much for sharing the knowledge you gained this whole week. I agree with you. PBL leads to authentic integration of skills and processing of information from varied sources, mirroring real-life tasks. Students are so busy in planing, executing and presenting the task. It encourages imagination, creativity, self-discipline, responsibilities and collaboration, research and study skills.
Next, I also agree with your point about Rubrics: Students can measure their performances, their drawbacks and their abilities. Moreover, parents through the net can have a direct access to their children’s performance and so they are more aware of how their children are learning.
I am new to use rubrics and web quest in my teaching. I found your web quest project wonderful.

Hey Elena,
ReplyDeleteIt was a wonderful sharing Elena. I don't contrast with your idea. It's learner centered method where teachers are just guide and this is one of the best method to make learning lively ad social. I do agree that it developes all the four skills of language learning.
